POLICE have warned pensioners to be on their guard after a series of burglaries by a bogus official.

They fear the same man stole property from two homes in Bury.

The conman stole cash from an 86-year-old woman in Sultan Street at 1.30pm on Thursday. She let him inside after he claimed to be a water board official.

He struck again at 7.45pm in Padiham Close. A 65-year-old woman let him into her home and he escaped with cash.

The conman is described as white, aged 50, 5ft 6ins tall, clean shaven with dark hair and dark clothing.

Police said residents should never let anyone into their homes without identification.

Detectives are linking both burglaries.
