I READ the Bolton Evening News story Pensioner "ordered off bus".

But why was this lady ordered off the bus? Because she had no money in her possession?

She obviously took out enough money to pay for the concessionary cost (80p).

Maybe the lady didn't have any more money on her, due to the fact that in this day and age people are being mugged in the street for less than a pound. I don't know, you at the Bolton Evening News don't know.

What I would like to know is, if the GMPTE inspector actually knew the lady -- by family association, or as a friend -- would he have booted her off and made her walk four miles home? I think not. And also I quote from the story -- "Obviously I am very upset that Mrs Murray feels upset, but I am satisfied that the inspector carried out his role in line with GMPTE policies and with due politeness."

The term "politeness" in this statement does not justify itself when, earlier in the story, it was stated by Mary Murray that (after an inspector had boarded the bus) -- "An inspector got on. I showed him my ticket and he asked to see my pass. I said I was sorry but I was not carrying it. He then said I had to pay £1.10 if I wanted to go to Little Lever, but I had no money on me."

"He told me I would either have to pay or get off the bus or he would call the police."

Do you at the GMPTE call that politeness? I pay for public transport through my council tax, but yet I never use it. Why? Thank God I have my own transport.

At least, after reading this, I know I don't have to put up with what Mary Murray has to. Also, if I was to ever spot Mary Murray waiting in a bus shelter for a bus, I would only be too kind to offer her a worry-free trip home for free.
