VIEWERS are apprently losing their appetite for TV cookery programmes.

"Domestic goddess" Nigella Lawson is the latest victim. Her new show is being dropped by Channel 4.

I am sorry about that because she always looked like she enjoyed her own cooking, complete with sticking her finger in the pot to check the taste which is so un-chef like, and yet so like the rest of us.

The problem with food programmes in general is that they whet the appetite wonderfully.

Unfortunately, they also instill a sense of depression because we know that our efforts at the same dish would end up looking like something a two-year-old modelled out of plasticine.

And they would probably taste that way as well.
