FRESH from their midweek FA Cup triumph over Dr Marten's Premier Division club Tamworth, Guiseley showed plenty of appetite for this UniBond first division clash and their extra hunger when it counted most was the difference between two well-matched teams in an entertaining, open game.

The Magpies held the upper hand in the opening exchanges and from Darren Emmett's diagonal cross Andy Mason at full stretch headed just wide.

Then Emmett tested keeper Chris Hill with a 30-yard drive which he tipped round the post. Guiseley came much more into the match as half time approached and Clive Freeman fired narrowly wide from long range.

Paul Varley was only just off-target for Chorley at the start of the second half but it was Guiseley who went ahead after 58 minutes when Ian Leather unluckily slipped in challenging Ryan Senior who set up Mark Stuart and he beat Mark Molyneaux with an angled shot in off the far post.

The home side should have gone two up when Senior dispossessed a hesitant Molyneaux and supplied David Cooke who fired wide of an empty net from the edge of the box.

Chorley worked hard to get back on terms but were caught on the break for Guiseley's second goal in the 74th minute.

Molyneaux looked favourite to beat Senior to a through ball but appeared to hesitate and when tackled for possession lost out to the big striker who went on to steer the ball into the vacant goal.

The Magpies did pull one back after 80 minutes when David Eatock seized on a loose ball in the box to beat Hill with a low shot on the turn but Chorley could not find an equaliser and Molyneaux had to be alert at the other end to deny Guiseley a third as he raced out to snatch the ball off Senior's toes.

If they are to remain in contention for promotion, Chorley will have to start showing more of their solid home form when away from Victory Park.
