UNIONS were due to find out today if a rescue plan put forward to prevent Boddington's brewery moving production out of Manchester has been successful.

The future of the plant has been in the balance since plans were announced to relocate 80 per cent of brewing to Preston and South Wales.

Parent company Interbrew says the move would save £3.5 million but see 68 staff axed.

However, union leaders say the company has failed to put a value on the loyalty to Boddington's roots in Manchester, where it has been based since 1778.
