Exhibitions

net:work www.netartnet.com

Contemporary painting, sculpture and prints

Featuring 16 contemporary artists who have come together through the medium of the Internet. Web shows of their work which can be viewed at www.netartnet.com but the exhibition in Bolton will be the group's first actual, as opposed to virtual display.

The artists are from as far geographically spread as London, Cambridge, Lancaster, Bolton, Bristol, New York and California and this will be the first time many of the group have met face to face, testament to how an internet link can bring together a fascinating mix of artwork. A range of styles, subjects and media will be presented and many of the UK-based artists will be invited to give gallery talks on their work.

Remembering HMS Dido

This small exhibition timed to coincide with Remembrance Sunday will pay tribute to the men who served on Bolton's very own warship. During a successful 'Warship Week' the people of Bolton raised the funds to sponsor this vessel which saw action throughout WWII. She served with distinction in the Mediterranean and elsewhere - notably assisting the invasion of Sicily and the Anzio landings.

homes of Football

Stuart Clark committed himself and his photographic skills to documenting the changing face of football in the wake of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 and the earlier Bradford tragedy. Convinced that the game was going to change dramatically, almost beyond recognition, he set out on his mission to record something that is of the moment, yet proves timeless. With his wonderful and unique work, this has certainly been achieved.

The tour began in 1991, and has proved so immensely popular throughout the country and even overseas, that is now a record breaker. It has developed to incude many larger works and new pictures, retaining its vitality. The pictures, large and colourful, have been described as a fitting tribute to the game by just about everyone in the football world and are sure to entertain fans of all ages.

The images present moments and subjects around the football ground that have no newsworthy story - it is only the passing of time that gives them meaning. Many of the scenes and grounds have now gone, whilst the people in the pictures have grown up, moved away, possibly stopped going to the match. The exhibition in Bolton brings together the best of the last decade, along with new work, as Stuart continues to tell the story in pictures. The exhibition runs from Friday, November 15 to January 11, 2003 and will be open until 8pm on Thursday, November 21 and 28 and December 5, 12 and 19. To visit the website log on to www.homesoffootball.co.uk

The spectrum of clubs and scenes is immense - Bolton Wanderers fans are pictured at both Burnden Park and the Reebok Stadium. In World Cup year there are recent images of England. In addition, there are many objects from Bolton Museum's own collection including a turnstile and row of seats from Burnden Park.

Sean Baggaley, Keeper of Social History stated: "It is fantastic to bring the Homes of Football exhibition to one of the true homes of football. I am sure the people of Bolton will relish this opportunity and enjoy this fascinating spectacle."

Jon Finch, Collections Manager added: "Football is truly the game of the people and this wonderful exhibition will certainly raise the profile of the town and bring the local community into the Museum and Art Gallery."
