TALENTED singers are set to join Lofty The Lion in a musical extravaganza to raise thousands of pounds for the Bolton Coronary Care Appeal.

Hundreds of people are expected to pack the Albert Halls for a charity evening put together by Farnworth singing teacher Jean Pasquill.

Her pupils -- including Frank Sinatra impressionist Cllr Noel Spencer -- will take to the stage to boost the appeal, which aims to raise £1 million to build a new unit for heart attack patients at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

Lofty the Lion -- the Bolton Wanderers mascot -- is set to perform as Elvis. His appearance has been announced just days after Wanderers said they, too, would support the Coronary Care Appeal.

The show will take place on September 27 at 7pm and ticket sales have been brisk. Jean, who has recently been in hospital herself for a throat operation, has also been taking donations for the fund.

So far, the Asian community has handed over £2,000 to the appeal, which is supported by the Bolton Evening News.

Ticket sales for the Multicultural Musical Extravaganza -- priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children and pensioners -- will make thousands of pounds more. The show's music will be drawn from five decades of songs, the earliest being from the 1950s.

Jean, who runs Melody Pop Tuition in Farnworth, said: "This will be a brilliant show for a very worthwhile cause."
