A 23-year-old woman was given a conditional discharge for 12 months after admitting a charge of prostitution at Bolton Magistrates Court.
The court heard that Tracy Joanne Ashton, of Vincent Street, Deane, had been "distracted" from attending a previous court hearing after being arrested for prostitution, because her uncle had been taken into hospital.
Then just days later her 22-year-old brother had been killed in a house fire.
JPs were told Ashton, a drug addict, was a "woman of no means" as neither she nor her boyfriend received benefits.
Ashton was told she would not have to pay a fine for failure to surrender because of time spent in custody.
