COUNCILLORS are elected or rejected by the electorate. Their allowances are published openly in the press, and subject to scrutiny.

We have an NHS Trust to run the Royal Bolton Hospital. In view of the present difficulties we need to be told how the members were chosen, and what remuneration they receive personally.

Also, I read in the Bolton Evening News that someone has been appointed at a salary of £75,000 to cut down waiting lists. Now we have another NHS committee under the Chairmanship of Pam Senior, as published in the Bolton Evening News.

The public needs to be fully informed how the members were appointed, what is the agenda of this group, and what payment does each receive. Are they volunteers? Is it a quango?

Don't blame the government for problems we read about. They "shovel" more and more money in, and not all hospitals have the same difficulties.

Don't blame the doctors, nurses and ancillary staff. They are giving 100 per cent.

Finally, don't blame the elderly for blocking beds.

They are people too, and in a few years there will be more and more living much longer than today's pensioners.

As Ronald Regan is reputedly to have said: "You ain't seen nothing yet!"
