TRYING to find the perfect hair products can be a minefield.

There are so many different lotions and potions on the market it is difficult to know where to start.

This week I have brought together a selection of what is on offer locally in the hope it will help make your hair your crowning glory.

Salon products are often thought to be the best for your hair and here I have picked salon products that have the added advantage of being available at a high street store and some products that can only be purchased from salons. All are widely available locally.

TONI AND GUY is one of the my favourite hair product brands and it used to be only available in salons. Now, thankfully, it is available in Boots in Bolton, making it even more accessible. A must have item is the affordable 1800 watt professional hairdryer (£25). It has three heats, two speed settings and a cool shot button. Great news for those of us who do not have an electricity supply close to a mirror is that it also has a salon-length cable. Its funky red and white design looks good too. TONI AND GUY also has a full range of hair care products for all hair types, recently launched at Boots. There is a shampoo and conditioner (£4.49 each) and a whole host of finishing products including no-kinks (£6.99) for a super straight finish, shine-zone spray (£7.99) for a weightless hold, and boost-it mousse (£5.99) to give volume and tame-it serum, for great control. WELLA Lifetex Re-Energiser (£4.65) is a quick intensive treatment for lifeless, damaged hair. It is only available in hair salons and is great for anyone with hair damaged by perming or colouring. It does not have to be left on the hair for any length of time so is perfect for a busy lifestyle. You do not have to rinse it off, simply spray on, comb through and style. Good news for those of us who are lazy when it comes to hair treatments. For stockists ring 08705 775544. JOHN PAUL MITCHELL'S Tea Tree Experience products smell divine and for anyone who has ever suffered from dandruff are a must. The tea tree in the shampoo and conditioner works well at ridding hair of dandruff. The shampoo is available in 100ml size (£4.10) and 300ml (£8.25) and the conditioner is also in 100ml size (£4.65) and 300ml (£8.95). There is also a tea tree styling wax, again available in two sizes 100ml (£7.95) and 200ml (£12.95). Available from local salons and for stockists ring 01296 390590. SAINSBURY'S men's hair and body range includes a very reasonably priced shampoo, Head Start (£2.49). It promises to refresh the hair and scalp, with extra conditioners to help strengthen hair and is mild enough to use daily. There is also a range of products, including shaving gel and balm, to complement the shampoo and they are all affordable.
