POLICE frogmen searched the River Tonge in the hunt for the clothes worn by murdered teenage prostitute Carly Bateman.

When she was last seen, at around midnight on Saturday November 10, she was wearing light coloured three quarter

length pants, a grey and blue top with 'Ellesse' written across the front and white Reebok trainers with pink

inserts.

The underwater unit will be searching the area of river alongside Tonge cemetery for the rest of the day.

Earlier, the detective detective leading the hunt for the killer said the investigation is making progress.

Det Chief Insp Tony Cook said the incident room had been inundated with information and his team was now slowly analysing all the details passed to them.

Carly's naked body was found dumped in an alleyway off Crawford Avenue, the Haulgh, in the early hours of Sunday, November 11.

The teenager, who worked in the red light area to feed her drug habit, had been strangled. Police are still searching for her clothes. Det Chief Insp Cook said: "The investigation is going well and we have got an awful lot of information to sift through. A major search is continuing for her clothes and we would appeal again for local people to check their gardens and outbuildings."

Just before she died, Carly was wearing light coloured three-quarter-length trousers, a grey and blue top with 'Ellesse' written across the front and white Reebok trainers with pink inserts.

Two men were arrested in connection with the killing last week, but were later released on police bail. Anyone with information on the murder is asked to call the incident room on 0161 856 5961.
