NICKY Weaver's clean sheet in midweek could not have come at a better time.

The 22-year-old keeper is returning to form but you would never know it as the microscope continues to magnify every mistake he makes out of all proportion.

Weaver, still a baby in goalkeeping terms, doubtless has a big future ahead of him.

His ability is unquestionable; the only thing that can prevent him being a rock solid top league player is his attitude and his mature and professional reaction to the well publicised mistakes he made in the Premiership last season augurs well for his future.

He has had a battle to restore his form and his credibility this season and, while there has been a hiccup or two along the way, it is a fight he is winning.

There is another fight around the corner as Carlo Nash is champing at the bit to regain his first team spot after injury and City yesterday signed the man regarded as Denmark's top young prospect.

Manager Kevin Keegan splashed out £750,000 on Denmark Under-19 keeper Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard from Danish First Division club Farum who has gained a big reputation in just 11 first team games for his club.

Keegan said: "He's 6ft 5ins and has a terrific build. He has a lot going for him and with our goalkeeper coach Peter Bonetti he'll have a great teacher."
