DURING the past few days, letters have appeared in the BEN from Dr Adams and Mr Banks, both senior members of the medical staff at the Royal Bolton Hospital, and Dr David Dennard a Bolton GP, all expressing the despair of the medical profession with the state of the NHS in Bolton.

My sympathy is with these people, and all the General Practitioners in the country.

I have received a brochure about modernising the NHS: Shifting the balance of power in Greater Manchester -- consultation on the proposal to establish a new Health Authority for Greater Manchester.

My reactions to this, is how many times has the NHS to be reformed, and are they in such an upheaval that to cover it, they have to play at reforming it, so that the excuse can be used to the effect it will be excellent when the doctors are used to it. No wonder the medical staff is at breaking point.

Just think what this government has done to the schools, railways, defences and the police in the four or five years they have been in power.

Now it is the turn of the doctors to be treated as pawns in the game of keeping Blair in power.

If these people showed as much interest in this country as they do in Europe and America, they may be worth acknowledging as a government.
