FATHERS and sons were left reeling with shock after Bolton Wanderers' fantastic win over champions Manchester United.

Delivery driver Steve Dwyer was celebrating the win and gloating after getting one-up on his teenage son while dedicated United fan Nick Murphy was weeping into his pint after being publicly humiliated by his Wanderers crazy son!

Steve, of Calder Drive, Kearsley, who watched the Old Trafford clash with his 15-year-old son Daniel, had predicted Wanderers would win 2-1 in the BEN on Friday.

The father and son were at loggerheads after United beat the Trotters 6-0 at Burnden Park four years ago. They did not speak for some time!

Preparing himself to watch the match in the Manchester United end, Steve told the BEN on Friday: "I think Wanderers will win 2-1 but a draw will be a good result."

But 24 hours later Steve got his own back on Mount St Joseph pupil Daniel. The tables were turned thanks to the right boot of Michael Ricketts six minutes from time.

Steve, aged 39, said today: "It was the game of the season so far, absolutely fantastic. Daniel was all right after the game and it more than made up for the Burnden defeat!

"There were three of us in the Stretford End who stood up when Wanderers scored -- but it was all good natured."

"We have proved we can do it away and now we have to do it at home. I think we will also beat Villa next week 2-0!"

Father-of-two Nick Murphy of Farnworth was stunned into silence at Old Trafford as he had been teasing his 10-year-old son William about United winning in the week running up to the big match.

Nick, aged 35, who is a television installer, had extra reason to feel devastated following the defeat of his team as his son is also his karate instructor.

The two martial arts fans had arranged a bet for the loser to wear the opposition team's hat yesterday when they trained with the Dai Ichi Ryu School of karate.

Nick said: "I'm still sulking. I went to the match with an old mate who I hadn't seen for ages and I met his girlfriend for the first time afterwards and just couldn't speak to her because I was so shocked!

"I wore the Wanderers hat yesterday and all the kids at the karate club were laughing their heads off.

"I'm going shopping at Middlebrook today and think I'd better take off my United shirt!

"I'm very bitter and twisted! But we will beat Wanderers when we play them at the Reebok."

Cherry Tree Primary School pupil William said: "It was really funny to see everyone laughing at my dad at karate.

"I was surprised that we won, but dead happy."
