SATURDAY: Wanderers crash to their third successive home defeat in the Premiership, beaten 4-0 by Newcastle.

The game is an even contest with chances missed at both ends before Nolberto Solano gives the Magpies the lead in the 42nd minute in controversial fashion, appearing to be in an offside position before getting the final touch. The task is made impossible when Jussi Jaaskelainen is sent off on the hour and, in the absence of a substitute keeper, Bo Hansen is in goal as Laurent Robert scores from the resulting free kick. Mike Whitlow picks up his fifth booking and faces an automatic suspension.

SUNDAY

BLACKBURN'S 7-1 hammering of West Ham at Ewood Park sees Wanderers drop to ninth in the Premiership.

MONDAY

SAM Allardyce says he wants to solve his goalkeeping problems, once and for all rather just on a loan basis. "We need three keepers," the Wanderers' boss says as Jaaskelainen faces a one-match suspension as a result of his sending off while Steve Banks is struggling to overome a finger injury.

TUESDAY

PHIL Gartside urges Wanderers' fans to keep up the good work after expressing his delight at the atmosphere generated at the Reebok in the second half of the Newcastle game. "That's just what we want," the chairman says. He reiterates that survival remains the No 1 priority and insists: "All of us - the players, management, staff, directors and supporters - have a responsibility and a part to play." Emanuele Morini, training with Portsmouth with view to joining the Fratton Park ranks on loan for the rest of the season, injures his ankle and has to call off the trial.

WEDNESDAY

WANDERERS continue to be dogged by goalkeeping problems when trialist Michael Bertocchi is substituted after just 35 minutes having conceded three goals in a trial with the reserves. Sunderland eventually run out 4-1 winners at the Reebok. On the plus side, Gareth Farrelly completes the game - his first after a lay off with a thigh injury. Steve Banks is declared fit to take his place on the subs' bench at Old Trafford.

THURSDAY

PER Frandsen is declared fit and tipped to return against Manchester United. Bo Hansen trains for the first time after needing treatment on a groin injury but Henrik Pedersen faces a length lay off with a more serious groin problem.

FRIDAY

SAM Allardyce acknowledges Sir Alex Ferguson as "the best manager in the world" while Bolton based United and England defender Gary Neville applauds the Wanderers' boss for doing a "fantastic" job.
