A HERITAGE group is producing a lasting reminder of its home town which could be seen all over the world.
Horwich Heritage intends to produce a video and CD-ROM about the community and its history in a bid to promote the area during next year's Commonwealth Games and the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The group, which has 200 members, hopes the video will help to promote the town. It is likely to attract hundreds of visitors next summer when badminton is held at Bolton Arena and cycling in Rivington as part of the games.
Members of the society previously produced a video about the town with the help of students from Bolton College but it was not sold commercially and can only be seen at the group's room in the Resource Centre in Beaumont Road.
The society aims to fund the £5000 cost of the video, which is to be made by a professional company with the help of sponsorship and grants.
Plans for the video were originally discussed by the group in the run-up to the millennium celebrations.
Chairman of the group, Stuart Whittle, has written the script for the video which will feature scenes of Rivington Pike, the Loco Works, Wallsuches bleach works, Middlebrook and the history of families connected to the town, including the Leverhulmes and Ridgways .
Mr Whittle, of Albert Road West, said: "The video will sell well.
"People from Horwich will want to buy it, we hope visitors to the area during the commonwealth games will buy a copy and it will also be bought for people from the town who have now moved away."
Any businesses wanting to sponsor the video are urged to contact Mr Whittle on 01204 847797.
