YOU know the feeling. You are asked to speak in public and your knees go weak, you definitely feel shaky and your voice has completely disappeared.

No, you are not unusual. But there is help at hand!

Bolton Ladies Speakers Club can certainly help with the business of learning to speak in a public situation. But, as member Helen Cramant explained, it can offer much more.

"It is also about personal development and self-confidence," she said.

Confidence

"We really do see women grow in confidence. It is usually a gradual thing, but it is wonderful to see it happen. And then it is not just a matter of speaking confidently but also improving job prospects and development."

The Club -- part of a national organisation -- has meetings specially structured to encourage new members and enhance the skills of established members.

Women of all ages and from a variety of situations meet on alternate Monday evenings at the Friends' Meeting House in Silverwell Street, Bolton town centre. Meetings run from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, and are friendly and enjoyable.

"It is not just the speaking itself, but the preparation that can be so useful," added Helen.
