NURSES and auxiliary workers at Bolton General Hospital were today boycotting the staff canteen in protest against increased prices. Almost all of the 400 staff members took sandwiches to work. "We have been told that salads are going up 5p from 24p to 29p and that 1 slices of bread will cost us 3p," said a spokesperson. "We think we are paying too much already."

BUTCHERS are divided as to whether meat should be de-rationed while supplies remain at their present high level. Reports from some quarters suggest that customers are not buying their full ration. As a result, part of the butcher's allocation is being left on his hands. Not everyone has the money to take up their full ration, it is said.

NOTWITHSTANDING the fickleness of the weather on Saturday, a large company visited the Bolton ground to witness the second day's play in the match for McIntyre's benefit. Expressions of disappointment were heard on all sides at the absence of Mr Hornby, that ever-obliging gentleman having promised to play in another benefit match at Burnley.

The cricket on Saturday was of a phenomenal character, and abounded with the vicissitudes for which the national game is famous. The Players' second innings was a most remarkable one, seven wickets being down for as many runs, whilst the ten batsmen were disposed of for the small total of 24.

The Gentlemen required 50 to win, and at the beginning of their innings it was doubtful whether they would obtain them or not. The match, however, was an easy victory for the amateurs, for whom Hollins batted for 57 not out. We may add that this match brought the season, so far as the Bolton Club is concerned, to a close.
