I REFER to the BEN letters page on Saturday, September 22, (Name and address supplied) and Grenville Moore.

Regarding Name and address supplied's letter. Could he or she tell us what source this particular bedtime story comes from, or is it the writer's personal view of Utopia? Either way it's a nice idea in theory, but hits a bit of a snag when it gets to the greed and hate bit.

Saying that God made everything perfect and we messed things up is a little too simplistic and it's actually much more complicated in reality, since it doesn't take into account the beliefs of the world's other faiths, however small.

Regarding Mr Moore's latest offering and the letter he replies to, do they realise that the New Testament as we know it today is largely a product of the Council Of Nicaea in AD 325 and certainly no written records were produced until after the Jewish revolt of AD 66. Then we have the problem of mistranslation. By the time a word, phrase or statement had passed from spoken Hebrew or Aramaic to written Greek to written Latin, then one or other modern language, we have to accept that meanings of words or phrases changed completely. Quote the Bible by all means Mr Moore, but don't go believing you're quoting the actual words, or in some cases reading about actual historical events, or do you?
