POSITION: Corporate Sales Manager

WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL? The sale and marketing of all match day hospitality, sponsorship and advertising at the Reebok Stadium.

PREVIOUS CLUBS/JOB: I have worked in many different industries but mainly sport. I worked at the North West Tourist Board in a marketing role for two years. I also worked at Bobby Charlton's Soccer School and was language co-ordinator there. I arranged the syllabus based around "Soccer English" -- a concept we devised to teach foreign children how to speak English through football. Previously, I worked in Australia for a year and have also worked for the Sports Souvenir Company developing and marketing sports merchandise.

EXPERIENCE IN THE JOB: I graduated from the University of Teesside in 1992. While at the university I was the Entertainments Manager which involved booking bands and co-ordinating the social lives of over 4,000 students. I can say that I had a hand in the success of many bands including Suede, Jools Holland and Dr and the Medics! (showing my age now!).

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO BOLTON Wanderers? The state-of-the-art stadium with its fantastic facilities was a key factor in me wanting to work here. When I joined, Bolton Wanderers were a Premiership club in waiting and the whole set-up is very professional.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED FOR WANDERERS? 2 years.

IN WHAT WAYS, IF ANY, HAS YOUR JOB CHANGED? It has changed somewhat dramatically. I have a lot more responsibility now and all for the better. We are a much more customer-focused organisation. We realise, that while fans aren't necessarily going to change their allegiance, there are other types of entertainment that can keep them occupied on a Saturday afternoon. So it's our job to entertain people enough to make them want to come back to the Reebok Stadium again and again. One of our main objectives is to encourage supporters to get into a habit of coming to the stadium, week in week out.

HIGH POINTS AND LOW POIINTS DURING YOUR WANDERERS CAREER:

High -- Promotion to the Premiership at Cardiff. It was a fantastic day throughout for everyone involved and the celebrations went on well into the following few days. I am very much in favour of the play-off system.

Low -- The Watford game at Wembley! It was my third month in the job and it was so disappointing especially the return coach journey. However, the victory over Preston at the Millennium Stadium has more than made up for that particular disappointment.

DOES YOUR JOB/WORKLOAD CHANGE DURING THE SUMMER WHEN THERE IS NO FOOTBALL? Football is a seasonal business and 75 per cent of our sales are conducted throughout the close season with the sale of seasonal executive boxes, membership clubs and advertising boards. During the season we sell match-by-match hospitality for those who prefer to be more selective of the games they attend, but seasonal members get priority.

WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES BEING IN THE PREMIERSHIP MEAN TO YOUR DEPARTMENT? The emphasis has changed. People generally are more excited about Premiership football than First Division football. Last season, we had to be more of a pro-active department because it was a harder job to sell the "Reebok Stadium Experience". However, this season, the increased influx of new supporters has meant that we haven't necessarily had the opportunity to "sell" the facilities at the Reebok -- people have come to us. Once we get into the season, we will get the opportunity again.

OOTHER COMMENTS ABOUT YOUR JOY/ YOUR TEAM/ YOUR CLUB: As I said earlier, we were a Premiership club in waiting. Now we have achieved our objective, it is up to us to establish ourselves as a Premiership outfit and I for one am really looking forward to what I believe will be a successful season for the Wanderers. I can be contacted on 01204 673761.
