FIREFIGHTERS battled to save a farm in Smithills at 5am today after arsonists set fire to bales of hay.
More than 30 tonnes of hay were destroyed in the blaze which also threatened to spread to nearby Harricroft Farm, on Smithills Dean Road.
No-one was injured and the farm building was saved.
