A BURY sixth form college performed well above the national average in this year's A-Level exams.

Initial results show that Holy Cross College students have achieved an average 92 per cent pass rate compared with 89.9 per cent nationally.

The college enjoyed a number of shining success stories with six students gaining five grade As, ten gaining four and 25 gaining three.

In terms of Computing, four pupils David Singleton, Martin Doherty, Tabraze Malik and Michael Jackson came among the top five in the country.

The new AS-Level exams enjoyed a 92 per cent pass rate again smashing the national average of 86.6 per cent.

And management at the college say early indications suggest at least five pupils will be heading for either Oxford or Cambridge.

Holy Cross principal Mike O'Hare said he was delighted with the results.

"They represent a tremendous achievement," he said. "They are a great credit to students and staff."
