A TEENAGE boy was left with a broken jaw and shattered teeth after he was attacked by two men at the Bolton Show.

Dillon Patel, aged 16, was kicked and punched to the ground just minutes after he had watched a firework display at Leverhulme Park.

The attack was so brutal surgeons had to insert plates in his jaw and braces on his teeth. His nose was also broken in the incident described by detectives as a "unprovoked assault."

Dillon underwent emergency treatment in hospital over the weekend but was allowed to return to his home on Willowbank Avenue, The Haulgh, today.

And as he was recovering his mother Manjula appealed for anyone who knows the attackers to contact the police.

She said: "This is my worst nightmare. It was terrible seeing him in the ambulance covered in blood. I'm so angry.

"I didn't want him to go to the fair ground at night and told him to come straight home after watching the fireworks."

She added: "I just hope they catch whoever has done this to my son."

Detectives said Dillon, who has just left St James CE Secondary School, in Farnworth, was the victim of an attempted robbery.

The two youths who approached him asked him for money, but he did not have any.

The teenager ran off towards the upper field of the park, off Long Lane, which is used as a cricket pitch. But the attackers caught up with him and kicked him to the ground during a terrible attack.

The attackers were eventually dragged off him by two 16-year-old female friends of the victim.

The teenager was admitted to the Royal Bolton Hospital suffering from serious facial injuries.

He was later transferred to the Queen's Park Hospital in Blackburn where he underwent surgery.

Det Supt Derek Fitzpatrick, of Astley Bridge CID, said the investigation to catch the two robbers was at an early stage and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

"This was a brutal assault which left Dillon in a very bad way," he said.

"There was a lot of people in Leverhulme Park that night and we are hoping someone will know these two youths."

The attackers are described as white, aged 16-17, with local accents, both wearing tracksuit bottoms, Rockport boots and smelling of drink.

One of them was of big build, 5ft 10 ins in height, had short brown hair and was wearing a Reebok T-shirt.

The second attacker is of smaller build, between 5ft 8ins and 9ins tall, with mousey brown short hair and was wearing a T-shirt.

Anyone with information on the attack, which happened at 9.25pm, on Friday, the first night of the annual Bolton Show, is urged to contact Bolton CID on 0161 856 5751.
