Lyndsey, who achieved As in Maths, Further Maths and Psychology and a B in General Studies will then study Maths and Statistics at Manchester University.

While Rafiah Ghanci, aged 18, of Deane, received top marks in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and a grade B in General Studies. Principal Roy Whittle said it was not just the A-grade team who had benefited from the College

He said: "As well as meeting the needs of high flyers we have demonstrated that students entering the college with modest GCSE grades have achieved success.

"Many subjects achieved high pass rates including English, German, Spanish, Business Studies, Further Maths, Politics and IT."

Mr Whittle added that their new £1m Business and IT centre on which work will soon start, will further enhance their facilities which have already been praised by college's watchdog the Further Education Funding Council.
