A DISASTROUS weekend saw Chorley crash out of two cup competitions with the dream of another Lord's final in the National Knockout ending on Sunday and a heavy deafeat the previous day in the Slater Cup.

Yorkshire side Wickersley racked up a formidable 264/8 from their 45 overs in the National Knockout with, unusually in such a big score, no batsman reaching 50.

Indeed, Mr Extras with 48 was Wickersley's top scorer though virtually all the Yorkshire side's batsmen made a decent contribution with captain Andy Harrison crashing 37 from just 16 deliveries and Jahinger anchoring things with a patient 46.

Chorley had little luck with Jahinger stumped early in his innings only for the umpire to call no ball.

Needing a good start, Roland Horridge's men lost openers Patel and Bannister with only 30 on the board. Wickersley's attack was nothing to write home about and managed to bowl more wides than their opponents but with the psychological cushion of such a big total to defend they could afford to be phlegmatic about such waywardness.

Wickets tumbled, with Heaton brilliantly stumped off a wide amongst them, and despite a defiant 50 partnership between Senior and Critchley Chorley were never seriously in the hunt.

Saturday saw a dismal bowling performance virtually handing victory to Netherfield in the Slater Cup, Patel -- an exception along with Marquet and Smith -- bowled magnificently to return figures of 8-4-7-3 to help reduce Netherfield to 77/6.

However, the support bowling largely disintegrated conceding an incredible 39 wides as Clarke hammered a belligerent 60 in a century partnership with Clement who made just 12 as Netherfield totalled 181/9.

Chorley's reply crumbled to 115 all out, Horridge top scoring with 32. With only the championship left to play for, Chorley return to league action this Saturday with the short trip to Leyland.
