POSTCARD-designing children from two Bolton estates could be getting their postcards back from Tony Blair during the summer holidays as part of a project to regenerate the areas.

Pupils at Castle Hill Primary School, Hall i'th' Wood, and Top o'th' Brow Primary School drew the postcards as part of the Government's SRB6 renewal project.

The youngsters at Top o'th' Brow School have also seen their work for a different project go on show at an exhibition in the National Gallery in London. The multi-media presentation of family life, "Family Fortunes", saw the children take pictures of their families using disposable cameras.

They were given a trip to London as a treat and gave Bolton North-east MP David Crausby the postcards, which they had drawn to raise awareness of the SRB6 project. He promised to send them to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.

Impressed

Breightmet artist Les Elvin, who was involved in their creation, said the postcards were designed to get children thinking about their attitudes to education.

He added: "We are hoping Mr Blair will send one of the postcards back to the schools. The project was designed to make children and their parents aware of the work the SRB6 project is doing."

Mr Crausby said: "I was very impressed with the standard of design and quality of the postcards. They have asked me to forward the postcards to Cabinet Ministers and I am very happy to do so. The children enjoyed the tour, were not afraid to ask questions and were a extremely well behaved -- a credit to their schools."

Chris Caldwell, headteacher at Top o'th' Brow, said: "The pupils really enjoyed it and it has focused their minds on what it takes to get a message across to people."

Melanie Berry, Year Six teacher at Castle Hill Primary School, said: "The pupils have loved making the postcards. I wasn't expecting them to look so good and the children were thrilled when they saw their finished works."

Each child has received a pack of postcards designed by themselves, while 300 packs have been printed of 24 of the postcards -- to be given away at various community events.
