FOUR people needed hospital treatment following a three-car smash.

The accident at 2pm yesterday came after a car veered out of control in Beaumont Road near its junction with Armadale Road, Ladybridge, said police.

A Vauxhall Astra, driven by Ian Helsby, aged 21, of The Cresent, Westhoughton, veered across the road and was involved in a collision with a Hyundai Accent and Vauxhall Corsa.

Mr Helsby suffered a seat belt injury while passenger 22-year-old Anthony McNamara of The Crescent, Westhoughton, sustained head, neck and chest injuries.

The driver and a passenger in the Vauxhall Corsa sustained minor injuries.
