A POSTMAN who lost his arm aged five has made a fresh appeal to BEN readers to help him buy a new limb.

Darren Peel, whose arm was severed when he ran into the propeller of a plane in Southport, has managed to raise around £300.

But, with the cost of an operation more than £15,000, the appeal fund has a long way to go.

Mr Peel has an artificial arm but it only gives him limited movement. Advances in science mean hi-tech, flexible arms are available.

The 31-year-old was told three days after the accident that an initial operation to reattach his arm was unsuccessful.

He was given an artificial limb which needed to be replaced every three years.

Mr Peel, who moved from Deane Road, Bolton, to Darwen, shortly after the accident, works for the Royal Mail in Bolton after being unemployed for a number of years.

He said: "The appeal is going well but there's still a way to go before I can go for the operation."
