I HAVE just been in Astley Bridge cemetery and was disgusted at what I saw, the beautiful old church in the centre, vandalised with graffiti and broken windows. Have these yobs no respect?
I also noticed the bench near the gates with a memorial plate on it, also vandalised. I think it is about time they put some kind of security on there, like a warden or park-keeper, then people will realise it is not a recreational ground or a dogs' toilet, but a place of respect.
I get so angry every time I go there to tend to my grandpa's grave! It is a very untidy place with litter baskets overflowing. There isn't even anywhere decent to sit down and think about the people that are buried there.
