IT will be odd not seeing Coventry in the Premiership next season. But it will be a lot less boring.
I'm sad for the fans but not for the club which has had a better run than any other club bar one in the top flight. I'm old enough to have experienced Coventry's entire 34-year stint in the top division and I honestly cannot remember one occasion in the league when they have sent the pulses racing. They've just been there, hovering somewhere near the bottom...treading water. Never challenging for championships or European qualification, their expectations and ambitions were merely to survive among the elite. You can't really blame them for that with their limited crowds and budget and they deserve credit for achieving it for so long when so many similar sized clubs fell by the wayside.
But football isn't only about achievement, it's about interest and excitement and after 34 years the Highfield Road plot had worn pretty thin.
