MANY people in Bolton are very concerned that, after all the campaigning by the BEN, little or nothing seems to have been done about the annual bedevilment of fireworks.
So it was good to read in the BEN recently that Brian Iddon had not given up the fight.
Doctor Iddon was among 55 MPs who supported an Early Day Motion calling for tighter laws on fireworks. The move calls for, among other things, new legislation to ban the use of non-registered fireworks and to empower local authorities to restrict the use of fireworks to an agreed period of the year.
This is common sense legislation which needs to be brought in urgently to ease the suffering caused each year by fireworks, both to humans and to animals.
It is ludicrous that the present law allows people to detonate explosives within feet of other people's homes any time of the day or night, any time of the year.
But what is even more ludicrous is that there are people who actually want to do this!
