FEW scouting trips are ever a complete waste of time and effort but Sam Allardyce's flight to Austria last week must rate as one of his more frustrating excursions.

"There was plenty to see," the Wanderers' boss confirmed after running the rule over the French U21s, "but they're all at least £2m-£3m players. And they're only U21s!

"One of them - Stephane Dalmat - cost Inter Milan for £7 million! And I wasn 't particularly impressed."
