MEMORIES of the silver screen have been stirred by BBC plans to make more programmes in the North.
A Bolton couple made it on to celluloid without leaving their home town almost 40 years ago.
Olive and Ray Kenyon, of Laburnum Park, Bradshaw, appeared as paid extras in the 1963 film 'A Kind of Loving'.
The John Schlessinger film starred June Ritchie and Alan Bates and was based on the book by Stan Barstow.
The comedy, about a girl who falls in love with a boy but falls pregnant before they get married, won the Golden Bear award at the Berlin Film Festival.
And Olive and Ray were extras in a dance hall scene filmed at the old Albert Hall.
Parts of the film were also filmed at the Victoria Hall.
Olive said: "I went along after I saw an advert in the BEN asking for extras.
"I took a few days off work to take part. I waited there all day but when Ray arrived to collect me he was asked to take part as well and got paid the same as me! We had a great time and you can see us on the film in the background on a long-range shot.
"We saw the film at the cinema and it has been on TV a couple of times.
"Hopefully it is available on video as well."
A number of TV crews have been in Bolton during the past few months recording scenes for various programmes including the police drama Cops for the BBC and the hospital drama A+E for ITV
