A SECOND patient has died after being found hanged at Leigh Infirmary.
John David Gowan, aged 48, of Kane Court, Lowton, died in Wigan Infirmary.
He had been taken there after an incident in the psychiatric unit at Leigh.
An inquiry was launched at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust following the discovery of the body of Jean Simm, aged 64, of Elm Tree Road, Lowton, last week.
Regarding Mrs Simm's death, a Trust spokesman said: "We are now urgently investigating the incident as part of normal procedures following an unexpected death."
An inquest into Mr Gowan's death was officially opened and adjourned yesterday.
