ROCK stars Robbie Williams and U2 are among a host of famous names who are raising funds for leukaemia sufferer Elizabeth Morris.

The chart-toppers are supporting the five-year-old from Prestolee by signing guitars to be auctioned off in Bolton next month.

Other rock stars who have autographed instruments include Brian May, Hank Marvin, Mick Hucknall, Jimmy Page, Peter Gabriel and Status Quo.

The event has been organised by the Sedgley Park Road Runners, who heard about Elizabeth's plight from the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust, for which they have raised money in the past.

Elizabeth has suffered from leukaemia since she was 18-months-old and is now in desperate need of a marrow transplant.

Peter Hilton, a Bolton-born policeman who is co-organiser of the event, said they wanted to do something as soon as they heard about the little girl and e-mailed many famous rock stars.

Peter, aged 37, said: "For the past three years we have been running marathons to raise money, but decided to do something different this time.

"I had an old guitar lying around and decided I would put it to use.

"We e-mailed various people and they all said they would be willing to help. We have been amazed with the response."

The Road Runners have been busy over the past few weeks sending the instruments to the rock stars and have amassed a fantastic collection which they hope will raise hundreds of pounds for little Elizabeth.

They have also had donations from dozens of stars from the world of sport and entertainment.

Bolton Wanderers and Nat Lofthouse have both given signed shirts, Manchester United have donated four shirts, including one worn by Roy Keane in a Champions League game, a tennis shirt autographed by Tim Henman, a signed photo by Martine McCutcheon and a bottle of wine from the cast of Emmerdale.

Phil Barker, a director of Barker Welding, on Eagle Street, and a co-organiser, said: "We hope plenty of people are going to come down to the auction, enjoy the night and raise lots of money."

The auction, called A Night with the Stars, will be held at the Last Drop Hotel on Saturday June 2.

There will be a three course meal and entertainment from two acts, Take Cover, and 18-year-old solo artist Kate Chapman.

Tickets for the whole event, which starts at 7pm, are priced £27.50 and are available by calling 0781 8045 804.
