ANGRY passengers are calling for a review of a busy bus service after complaints of access difficulties for prams and wheelchairs.

Two weeks ago The Citizen reported the plight of a young mum having problems using Arriva North West's 362 Chorley-Wigan service after a number of special low-floor buses were reduced.

Now we've received further complaints about the service!

Coppull resident Eileen Gladwinfield wrote to us to say the reduction of low-floor buses had caused problems for her husband.

She explained: "My husband is in a wheelchair. The low-floor buses were a vital lifeline for us as I don't drive."

She also made the point that it would be very helpful if Arriva could say when the special buses would be used with a timetable.

Mandy Horridge, 16, of Longfield Avenue, Coppull, said: "I was with my four-month-old son Thomas and the driver said I could not get on unless I folded the pram up and carried Thomas. "I was alone and there was no way I could manage it, but he said I couldn't take the pram on board because it would take up too much room which could be needed for other passengers further along the route."

Mandy said she waited for an hour in the cold, by which time they were "freezing, wet and upset" before calling a taxi.

Derek Bowes, marketing manager for Arriva North West, said he would look into Mandy's complaints and admitted that it should not be beyond the company's capabilities to set up some form of timetable, adding that if anyone has a particular difficulty with travelling they should ring Arriva in advance on 08705 275123.
