BAD second half defending saw Ramsbottom United squander a two-goal half time lead to lose 4-2 at home to St Helens Town.
Chris Brookes and Russell Brierley appeared to have United well in command but a storming second period recovery from Saints got the victory it deserved.
Chris Quirk scrambled in the first with Terry Fearns capitalising on a rare mistake from home keeper Keith Neild and the same player getting a third with a diving header. The Rams brought on forward Mark Heyes to commit men forward but got caught out in the final minute when Saints substitute Lee Cooper got a fourth.
