A BLACKROD man was seriously injured when his car was involved in a head-on accident with another vehicle last night.
Edward Connell, 28, was due to be transferred to a specialist hospital today for emergency treatment after suffering a fractured pelvis, broken ribs, a ruptured diaphragm and a dislodged liver.
He suffered the horrific injuries in a two-car smash on Wigan Road, Aspull, near its junction with Dukes Row, at 11.10pm yesterday.
A police spokesman said the accident happened on a left hand bend when Mr Connell's Vauxhall Corsa collided head-on with a Ford Orion being driven by Gywneth Jones, 44, of Smith Street, Aspull.
She was trapped in her car for 45 minutes and suffered a dislocated hip and cuts to her head and knee. She was due to undergo surgery today at Wigan Infirmary.
Mr Connell of Greenbarn Way, Blackrod, was due to be transferred from the infirmary to a specialist unit for further treatment. He is said to be in a serious condition.
Today Wigan Traffic Unit appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 0161 856 7072.
