THE Department for Education and Employment has pledged to pump £210,000 into the failing Deane School over the next three years in an attempt to revive its fortunes.
Discussions about the way forward for the troubled high school take place today.
The school was failing its 800 pupils and the board of governors, together with the Local Education Authority, has to produce an action plan for the future by early May.
It is quite clear from the report drawn up by the school inspectors that pupils were not getting the education they deserved. Drastic action was obviously needed to bring the matter to a head.
Money has been promised. Serious attention is being paid to the school -- and not before time.
However, a recent parent evening at the school saw just five per cent of parents turn up. They too now have to accept they must also play their part in revitalising Deane School, turning it into the place of education every child deserves.
