THE top of the table clash in Division One between Bolton County and Radcliffe Amateurs was marred by tragedy 12 minutes from time when home left winger Franny Tobin suffered a broken leg.

With County leading 2-0 the game was abandoned by the referee but the result will still stand.

"It was a terrible injury," explained Radcliffe secretary Pete Daws. "There was a tackle but the lad's foot got caught in the mud and that was it."

Ambassadors lost to Mancs 3-1 after a couple of contentious refreeing decisions. Ady Wolstenhulme scored direct from a corner. but Mancs were back on level terms within three minutes through a dubious penalty. On 62 minutes Mancs thought they had taken the lead but the referee disallowed the goal for an alleged foul by a Mancs forward, another decision that baffled both sides but which Ambassadors were grateful for.

The visitors did eventually take the lead on 69 minutes when a long throw was flicked directly into Ambassadors goal. Mancs added a third on 80 minutes when slack marking left a Mancs forward free at the far post to seal a deserved victory with a low driven shot.
