NORTH-west exporters remain confident about business prospects, a new report reveals.

The latest DHL Quarterly Export Indicator shows little evidence of the reported US economic slowdown affecting regional firms.

Ninetythree per cent of businesses expect orders to the USA to increase or remain the same during the coming year compared with 89 per cent last quarter.

Seventy per cent expect their workforce to stay at the same level over the next year and 26 per cent are planning to take on more staff.

But only 41 per cent thought their business would benefit from Britain joining the Euro -- down from 47 per cent last quarter.

Mr Ian Campbell, Director General of the Institute for Export, said: "It's great to see North-west exporters are remaining optimistic about future prospects.

"It's clear they have faith that the quality of their products and services will win out."
