FIGHTING fit youngsters from a Bolton primary school have hit the fitness trail after a full week of healthy living.

Pupils at Farnworth's Highfield County Primary recently swapped jotters for jogging bottoms when they embarked on a Health and Fitness week which covered everything from exercise to eating.

The week was the brainchild of school head Margaret Parrish and the idea was to introduce children to the benefits of a healthy lifestyle at an early age.

The 320 pupils took part in exercise sessions run by qualified instructors, healthy eating sessions - which included tips on how diet can promote fitness and even had a special visit from Bolton Wanderer's mascot Lofty the Lion who encouraged the children in their quest for fitness.

But it was not just the children who got physical because the school invited parents to come on down and join in the after-school exercise sessions

The week culminated in a special "Green Lunch" for parents and pupils again promoting healthy eating.

The school hailed the event as a huge success and said there had been some great feedback from parents and pupils who are now fitness fanatics.
