SO now we know! Cllr Peter Johnston is proud of his track record in hindering the construction of new and essential road improvements (BEN: March 10). His letter positively gloats over the difficulties commuters experience on Blackburn Road every day.
He is obviously happy and content to strut the corridors of power in the Town Hall while life in the modern world outside slowly ebbs away from Bolton. You can almost hear him cry "Bring back the handloom weavers".
Let me just tell you Peter Johnston, the life and prosperity of this country, is determined by commerce and initiative not by Town Hall ostriches. If commerce cannot move freely in Bolton it will just go away. You are certainly making a good impression. Keep the roads to a minimum and pack those that are left with empty cycle lanes and legions of scooterised traffic wardens not forgetting the car park white line police.
Do make a special effort Peter to encourage votes from the jobless -- with your policies their ranks can only grow. What a tired and pathetic administration we have setting the future goals for Bolton. Let us not be too harsh however -- visitors can always rest on the cold and lifeless seats in Victoria Square.
