I WAS amazed to read in the BEN the claim about housing developer J S Bloor axing down trees at Fish Fold Farm in Westhoughton.

It is quite obvious he has only bought the farm for the purpose of making money by building houses on the land (for which he has recently lost a planning application for 44 detached houses!). Despite this, the developer has continued to chop down hawthorn, oak, ash and poplar trees, probably in the hope that an appeal will be accepted and so is clearing a bigger area in preparation.

J S Bloor has obviously no concerns for the Wildlife Act 1981, or the damage he has done to the habitat. It's just another case of a greedy money-making developer only interested in building, with no concerns for wildlife, or anything else that gets in the way!

Thank goodness Bolton Council stepped in and made a preservation order just in time to protect the remaining trees on the site, and let's hope that, if the developers do appeal, the Council will stick to their guns and refuse planning permission altogether. There are already too many housing developments taking up all the land!
