WHILE it's easy to feel a sense of continuing depression over Bolton's rejection once more as a possible university town, there is still some heartening educational news around.
Bolton Sixth Form College, for example, is to get a £1 million extension to house new business studies and information technology classrooms. It will not only enhance facilities, but give the College much-needed extra space.
It is generally agreed that information technology in particular is the key to future success in most fields these days. And the busy Sixth Form College on Smithills Dean Road has already won official approval for their business studies as being above the national average.
If students are to progress locally, they need top-notch facilities to complement good standards of teaching.
The moves at Bolton Sixth Form College bode well for the future of education in the borough and, university status apart, this is really what any town needs to move forward.
