SHAKERS' boss Andy Preece has promised to be honest with his players as the speculation about Bury's future increases.

With no buyer for the club, players whose contracts run out in the summer may have to be released because chairman Terry Robinson can't afford to offer them new deals.

That includes the likes of club captain Nick Daws, midfielders Chris Billy and Paul Reid, stalwart defender Chris Swailes and even assistant boss Steve Redmond.

Not even Preece knows what will happen but after Saturday's win over Swansea he assured his team that he would be straight with them.

He said: "I want to sort it out sooner rather than later.

"I'm a player so I understand that the lads need to know what is happening.

"If we can get to a safe position we'll let the players know and give them the opportunity to get themselves fixed up elsewhere if we can't afford to offer them something.

"But we've got to look after the interests of Bury Football Club first.

"We don't know what's happening with the takeover which is difficult for me to work with because I could be out of a job in a week or two.

"It is difficult circumstances for us all to work under but we just have to get on with it."

Preece revealed that homegrown midfielder Jason Jarrett had been left out of Saturday's squad to "clear his head".

The Bury boss said Jarrett had failed to sign a new contract and blamed it on the player's agent.

He said: "Jason is a great lad and he loves playing for Bury.

Upset

"The contract is there if he wants it but unfortunately there are other people involved. His agent has upset me.

"I left him out so he can keep his mind free and have the weekend to think about it.

"Hopefully on Monday he'll come in and tell me he wants to sign." Andy Preece -- being honest with players
