FIREFIGHTERS disinfected their clothes and equipment to combat foot and mouth disease when they attended a blaze at a farm near Kearsley.
An arsonist had set fire to a building full of hay at a farm off Sandhole Road at around 11pm on Saturday.
Firefighters used a special all-terrain vehicle to get to the fire because their normal engines could not get down the dirt track.
But because there were sheep nearby -- which can carry the disease -- firefighters had to disinfect their gear as a precaution.
It follows new regulations imposed by the fire service aimed at preventing the spread of the disease.
