I TRAVELLED to Bhuj as a relief worker on February 2. During my stay I found that at least 68 villages razed to ground needed an urgent sheltering programme before the villagers are hit by the rainy season in June.

These people are housed in small tents sleeping up to 30. The priority is to get them into safe housing. Other projects to help the injured get back to their villages and families from remote hospitals are also urgently in hand.

In a joint venture with Swaminaryan Boarding School, Bhuj, we have already started this project for new, safe homes.

These homes are of 20ft by 12ft, made of 800 blocks, 11 metal roof panels, a door, two windows, with a shower and toilet outside. They cost 30,000 rupees earch and are erected on the foundations of damaged houses.

There are no administration labour costs involved. All work is voluntary by local villagers and relief teams. Just provide them with the raw materials to build these houses.

Time is of the essence and I urge you to help us. Cheques please to the address below, made out to: SKSS Temple (Bhuj Earthquake Appeal). Direct transfer: Barclays sort code 20-10-71, account 60415278.
