PASS master Tony Grant can complete his transformation from Maine Road outcast to saviour, believes his manager.

The 26-year-old is the surprise package of City's improving form, not least so because he was on the brink of dropping down a division after a successful loan spell a few weeks ago.

His injection of guile into City's workaholic but technially limited midfield makes the £250,000 Royle paid for him from Everton just over 12 months ago look a real bargain.

Thanks to injuries and suspensions to City midfielders and Ian Bishop being allowed to leave the club, Grant's City career was given an extension. He has grabbed his chance with both hands and Royle is convinced he can go all the way to the very top.

"His ability alone should have made him top class years ago," praised Royle.

"His ability is there for all to see. He passes the ball superbly and plays the simple pass better than anyone else in the country.

"He's always been a favourite of mine and, for the humble money we paid, he can repay us in spades."
