YOUNGSTERS in Blackrod are looking forward to all sorts of sports events in an action-packed PE week.

Pupils at Blackrod County Primary school will be taking part in most sports during the week dedicated to physical education between March 19 and 23.

The school dedicates a week of each year to a different subject but this will be the first time the children have ever had the chance to get out and about so much with opportunities to play tennis, netball, tag rugby, judo, morris dancing, badminton, trampolining, cricket, volleyball and football.

Staff and students from St Joseph's High School, Horwich, which is a designated sports college, will also be helping to make the week a success.

They will provide transport for the primary school pupils to get to Horwich Leisure Centre for swimming sessions.

The grand finale of the week will be a mini Olympics event.

PE teacher Nicola Oakes said: "We're just hoping for a spell of good weather. "The kids still only know a bit of what's happening but they will be very excited when they know the full list of events. This is my baby so I just hope it goes well!"
